I have finally gone through the process of taking the AZ-500 and have now passed it. Below is going to be my experience of going through the studying process and the actually taking the exam itself.
The past couple of posts have really focused on the different study techniques that I was using to prepare for this certification.
Preparing for Exam
I did the following to prepare…
- Utilized an AZ-500 course off of Udemy
- Microsoft Learn modules to better my understanding of Azure and provided me lab exercises to enhance the learning experiences.
- Use Microsoft Learn’s Assessment feature and AZ-500’s Exam Prep to give me an understanding of the material I was weak in
Decided to take exam
I figured today would be the best day to actually take the exam. I had been studying for around 2 months give or take and feel like I was at the peak of my studies.
I scheduled it using the Microsoft portal and took it via the Pearson Vue Online Proctored exam. This gave me about 3-4 hours of studying before taking the exam. To get me up to speed I used John Savillis’s AZ-500 Crash Course. I would have it on the side monitor as I worked and went through my day preparing for my exam.
Exam Time and Review of Exam
The exam setup process was fairly straight forward. It performed its system check and then we were on the way. With me being early, I was able to actually start the exam early.
Here are my thoughts on the exam:
- Exam questions were not too difficult but were challenging.
- Exam format was a little strange where I got loaded with all multiple choice at the beginning, case studies, and then lab environment at the end.
- Time Management is key for getting through the exam without issues. One of the biggest mistakes I made was during the initial multiple choice section. I took my time through the beginning section and got to the end with the lab with 10 minutes left.
Overall, the exam wasn’t too bad. If you go over the materials from the course objectives and do labs, there should be no issue passing this exam.
